Based on the Los Angeles Times newspaper series that won two Pulitzer Prizes, this astonishing story puts a human face on the ongoing debate about immigration reform in the United States. Now a beloved classic, this page-turner about the power of family is a popular text in classrooms and a touchstone for communities across the country to engage in meaningful discussions about this essential American subject.

Good Works Are Happening
Gulfcoast is providing monthly outreach at the Beth El Mission in Wimauma, which mainly serves migrant farmworkers. In a new initiative, we are collaborating with a local non-profit medical clinic, which is also sending a nurse with our attorney to outreach visits. Clients who come in for immigration advice can also receive a health screening. (Spring 2014)
|Join us for an important training event on providing a “Coordinated Community Response to Victims of Domestic Violence”, developed by the Sixth Judicial Circuit, Domestic Violence Court for Pinellas County. Be a part of a community that says NO to domestic violence and supports victims in ending the cycle of violence. GLS staff have been working hard on the Advisory Team for the newly created Sixth Judicial Circuit, Domestic Violence Court for Pinellas County. An offshoot of this group's work has been the creation and development of a “Domestic Violence Coordinated Community Response” training for the community. The goal of the training is to inform attorneys, local non profit agencies and community members how to provide a holistic response to victims of domestic violence through the legal process. This can be a challenging time for victims of domestic violence and navigating the legal system can be overwhelming. Attorneys in the GLS Family Law Unit help victims of domestic violence break the cycle of violence and move forward to a life free of violence and abuse, by assisting these clients in navigating the legal system to ensure their safety and security. The Community Leader Panel presentation at this training will consist of Chief Judge McGrady, State Attorney McCabe, Clerk Ken Burke, Sheriff Gualtiere and Jena Blair, Esq. of Gulfcoast Legal Services. This training is to be held from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, June 7 in the first floor conference room at CJC. CEUs and CLE credits will be available.|
